  • loo.A walking tour of the city of London that takes in the ara between London Bridge and St.Pauls Cathedral area says, the the area where Lower Timber Street is, is where the first Mens W.C. was installed, so as to improve the area, which had been left in a dirty state; around where there were many workers, working on the docks..The toilet is no longer situated there, as the area has been much developed including post WW2 bombing repairs, but where the little beach is, in the vt.; is where abouts the toilet was situated..I've yet to find a year for this...The white waterfont building with the triangle pointed roof, four doors along from the beach, had an apartment for sale three bedroom, on two levels for 2.5 Mil Pounds..Three doors this way is an ancient bonded store building, which has been converted to apartments, since early 1980's it has had a one bedroom flat, facing the river, for sale for 350,000 pounds.Apartments in this building are either on the waterfront or around an internal atrium, those are in the majority (80%) and are less costly..There is no local shop there and every where is a walk up a hill..One of the interveining two buildings is a near completed apartment building which replace an office building on the site..There remains two office buildings amoung this lot, which will be converted supposably; as there is not as much demand for small head office in that location compared with housing..The city law requires that pedestrians have right of way to the water front, the way was not possible along this stretch of the Thames, because of existing-use rights, which are now supposably lost, on account of there being a new development; on the newly developed sites..Therefore the existing rights of use held by the olden bonded store, is retained as the waterfront access law was made after this buildings use was changed to the residential flat use, now still held..In Sydney, where this type of law was also proclaimed, landowners had ten years to build a pontoon to carry pedestrians accross the front of their waterfront land, so as to maintain the continuous waterfront access, as required by the law...Not such a great place to live ... there on the river, because boats do make some noise, and the white building has lost some of its privacy by there being completed nearly outside the front of it; the millenium bridge, for pedesrians, which is very popular, and provides a panorama into the aforementioned 2.5 Mil pound flat and its neighbour flats..There is no view of St. Pauls Cathedral, of course from any of these apartments, but accross the river is the intimate view of the rebuilt Shakespeares Globe Thearte, and nearby that, the world famous TateModern art gallery...
