- www.discoveringbolivia.com Intense Birding with Michael Blendinger Nature Tours, a tradition of good fun for Hobbyist and Specialist. The strongest motivation for these tours is getting to know most Bolivian endemic birds (20 plus other 20 almost-endemics), those of distribution restricted to less than 50.000 km2 (63 species inhabit Bolivia in Endemic Bird Areas or EBAs), the zoogeographical-endemics (238 species occur in Bolivia) and the threatened ones (70 species protected in Bolivia), or simply the most spectacular and interesting wings. We don't neglect the rest of the avifauna (1400 species for Bolivia in total), but the specialties of Bolivia are our priority. Anyway, we maximize the spotting chances by visiting more than 25 Protected Areas at national, departmental and municipal level with professional and well equipped birding guides. The routes were specially designed to achieve this task. We take you to 7 of the 9 EBAs in Bolivia where they concentrate most of the species that we look for, we visit 14 of the 23 Important Bird Areas in Bolivia, plus other 7 potential IBAs, and we go to all the Avian Life Zones according to the Annotated List of the Birds of Bolivia (in our tours of intense Birding we cover heights between 200 and 5.000 m.a.s.l. and precipitations registered between 50 and 5000 mm of annual rainfall). We recommend you to begin at-or-before dawn, in occasions we also continue after dusk. The pause at noon is generaly used to switch to the next town, habitat, lifezone or ecosystem. Playback and spotlights are used moderately according to reactivity of the species, to their susceptibility, season of our visit, the frequency that those techniques are used in each location and to user's desire.
