  • Dedicated to my friend DelisaProductions. From the soundtrack of the blockbuster movie "Jaws" (for my Italian friends who didn't know, this is the original title of "Lo Squalo") (1975) directed by Steven Spielberg.Of all the famous soundtracks composed by the genius of John Williams, this is the first in time and, for me, the most fun to play, especially for its particular and dramatic featuring of piano: an unforgettable theme consisting in just an alternation of 2 (or 3) bass notes in ottava (which I found similar to some 50-60s minimal abstract paintings which depicted just some rectangles in 2, or a few more, resolute colors).Looking closer, however, the theme develops richly on that simple base (with orchestra in the original arrangement), first adding standard chords in unusual menacing way (0:20), then depicting intriguing open-sea waves (0:40ca) and later contrasting with the happy beach people unaware of the danger (1:00).The piano adaption in the sheet "John Williams Anthology" is rather simplified respect the CD version which is of course a synthesis of the soundtrack. This interpretation is a compromise between the various versions, with the addition of a couple of elements in the philosophy of the piece.
