  • The incredible story of the Alsace-Sarajevo Aid convoy. In 1992-3, I was involved with a journalist friend to set up an aid convoy to the besieged city of Sarajevo (in the then war-torn ex-Yugoslavia). Since all official channels appear unsupportive, I decided to organize a demonstration in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France. It was a success: several hundreds showed up. This event was covered by the local medias. Many of these demonstrators formed the core of the needed army of volunteers. As it was gaining momentum, the local authorities and key politicians eventually gave the green light to open the doors of all the city councils of the region, so people could give money to help.
