- Date: February 23, 2006With the looming trade deadline, Ron Artest was about to be a Laker. He bought a house in Los Angeles and attended several Laker games in his spare team. Behind the scenes however, for reasons unbeknown to fans, the deal was over. Thirteen days passed and Ron Artest was sent to the Sacramento Kings - The Lakers great ex-rival. Bryant had managed to scored 51 point at Arco Arena on an "Artest-less" Kings team a few weeks ago. Now with all eyes watching, Bryant would face the best defender in the NBA. Due to an injury, Ron Artest had conditioning problems and Bryant was quick to take advantage. In a masterful display Bryant poured in 36 points on 14-27 FG and 10 assists in only 36 minutes of play. Bryant started the 3rd quarter with 3-3 FG, and seemed on pace to score 50+ points in under three quarters. However, the officials made a questionable call the sent Bryant to the bench for the last 7 minutes of the third quarter. Bryant came back with a vengeance making 5 of his 14 field goals in the 4th to re-secure the lead and the game for his team. While Bryant did have an unbelievable game, with 36 points and 10 assists in 3 quarters of play, one can only imagine what would have been had he not been relinquished to the bench due to foul trouble. I believe that at a minimum he would have racked up a 50 points , 13 assists, 8 rebound night. Following this game, Ron Artest refused to sleep and was so infuriated that he spent the entire night running on his treadmill [Getting source].Full Boxscore: http://www.basketball-reference.com/b...
